About Emily M. Hedrick
I was born and raised in the small town of Cumberland in the mountains of Maryland. Growing up, I was involved in many activities. I played softball since I was seven years old and in my junior year of high school we won the Maryland 1A State Championship. I was involved in cheerleading, mostly because of my love of football. I was a part of the envirothon team, I was active in student government and was Allegany High School senior class president 2010-2011. I was inducted into The National Honor Society and acted as an officer my senior year. I always dreamt of going away to a big college, so I began applying just about anywhere. I heard from Auburn University and mostly decided then that Auburn was where I was going. The first time I saw Auburn, Alabama was the night before my orientation day and I knew instantly it was a great to be an Auburn Tiger.
I landed in Auburn, Alabama in August of 2011 undecided of what path I wanted to take in college, just happy I was somewhere new. I went to school, worked, lived on my own and began to figure out what “real life” is like. I quickly became a part of the Auburn family and attended every home football game that season. My freshman year taught me a lot about myself and I enjoyed each new experience I encountered. I still did not really know what I wanted to do in college, so I decided to try a little bit of everything. Building on my interests of communication and business I found the public relations major and in spring 2015 I was accepted into the program. For the past year I have gained knowledge in writing, research, and content creation for public relations. I look forward to graduating from Auburn University and working in the world of communications. I have learned and grown so much in the past five years and I owe it all to my experience at Auburn University.
When I’m not at school or working, I like to listen to bluegrass music, in the car, at home or out of town at a concert. Every Memorial Day weekend you can catch me back in my hometown volunteering at DelFest, a bluegrass festival hosted by Del McCoury and family. I like watching and attending major sports functions, especially Auburn football home games.
